The Soul Tape, Session One: A Tribute to Deespace5 ‘Deepspace 5oul’

This 5-song release is the first of multiple upcoming mini-projects paying homage to one of our favorite groups, the groundbreaking Deepspace5! For Session One, the FiveTwenty Squad went all cypher-ry and also enlisted the help of our friends Eternity, iNTELLECT, YP aka Young Paul, and Dex the Nerd Who Loves Jesus to take you back to the 2000s and classic boom bap hip hop. DS5 member Sivion even blessed us with a cameo. We hope you enjoy it! Take a listen below…

YP aka Young Paul "Asylums Tears"

YP aka Young Paul Confronts the Spirit of Fear By Bringing Light to the Darkness

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline. So never be ashamed to tell others about our Lord. And don’t be ashamed of me, either, even though I’m in prison for him. With the strength God gives you, be ready to suffer with me for the sake of the Good News.” [2 Timothy 1:7-8]

Isolated. Confused. Forgotten. What do you do when you feel trapped? How are you to feel when hope is hard to find? When screams from outside the walls are all that come to comfort you, it is easy to be washed by a stream of the Asylums Tears. Even in the darkness, we must search for the light.

YP aka Young Paul and Leathle Da 3rd7 walk the halls of the structure that once housed the world’s outcasts. Asylums Tears is a genre-bending record that pushes the limits of mainstream American Christianity. The duo is putting believers on notice that we can no longer turn a blind eye to the gritty reality of life and attempt to simply hide it away. We have the truth at our fingertips that sets the captives free, maybe it’s about time that we give the remedy to those who need it most.

The Dax Hamma-produced track evokes a feeling of unease that keeps listeners on the edge of their seats, unable to be truly comfortable. The pounding low-end and sustained synths are reminiscent of the musical scores for the most popular horror flicks. Completing the eerie feel are sampled screams which sonically surround the listening environment. YP and Leathle trade off bars that paint vivid pictures while consisting of deeper, metaphorical themes. Asylums Tears is everything that classic east coast boom bap is expected to be.

Asylums Tears hits digital streaming platforms on April 28, 2023.

“Where I’m at when it rings, it ain’t a bell, it’s a gun show / where gun smoke in the air, where the guns blow”

YP aka Young Paul "Eerie Howl"

YP aka Young Paul and Selah The Corner Stare Down the Evil Which Hides In Darkness

“When they ask why you are groaning, tell them, ‘I groan because of the terrifying news I have heard. When it comes true, the boldest heart will melt with fear; all strength will disappear. Every spirit will faint; strong knees will become as weak as water. And the Sovereign Lord says: It is coming! It’s on its way!’” [Ezekiel 21:7]

When it comes to the gritty underground of Christian rap, YP aka Young Paul and Selah The Corner are two monsters that are unavoidable. Lyrically they punch with a force that many assumed no longer existed in today’s world of hip hop. But the east coast duo shows the genre that real spitters haven’t left the game. Yes, the sun rises in the east, but there’s no reason to fear the night. Not when you navigate in power and in truth.

Eerie Howl finds YP and Selah collaborating over production by It’s Knuckleup. The record is a sonic reminder that light does not run from the darkness, instead it has dominion over the unseen. From the moment the beat drops, it is clear where the allegiance of these artists resides. They are facing giants and defending the honor of their King.

If you are a fan of hard-hitting boom bap and perfectly selected samples, maybe even the occasional thriller flick, then Eerie Howl is going to be the latest addition to your personal playlist.

“Do or die for the Lord we ride / On the east when we active in the streets in means we outside / Every knee bowed paying homage / If you rather be a gremlin with the demons then you stay in bondage”

Eerie Howl hits digital streaming platforms on March 31, 2023.

About YP aka Young Paul

YP aka Young Paul was born and raised in Jersey City, NJ. He bounced around Hudson county for the next 25 years. Currently, YP is living in the South Bronx and has been there for almost 10 years. Rapping for over a decade, YP has collaborated with some of the best DJ’s and artists from around the world. His mission is to create art that hip hop fans can appreciate and enjoy. Simultaneously, YP brings hope and encouragement to seek after God for transformation and renewing of the mind. His hope is that, through music, people will be encouraged to go after Jesus.

About Selah The Corner

A Yonkers N.Y. native, Selah brings a new flavor to this musical genre that is sure to not only change the way gospel listeners view gospel hip-hop, but the way the entire music industry looks at gospel music.

YP aka Young Paul and Da Commissioner, 'Guillotines on the East 2'

YP aka Young Paul and Da Commissioner Return With Guillotines On The East 2

“Blessed be the Lord, my rock, who trains my hands for war, and my fingers for battle;” – Psalm 144:1

In 2022, the guillotines were raised on the East as New York emcees YP aka Young Paul and Da Commissioner began an uprising against the forces of evil that seemingly have America tightly in their grips.

There were no words that were mixed; none of the punches were pulled; backing down was not an option. The result was one of hip hop’s hardest-hitting EPs of the year. One that received acclaimed recognition from listeners and media alike. The raw, no holds barred energy of the first installment set the stage for YP and Da Commissioner to push further into enemy territory in 2023.

Guillotines On The East 2 continues the battle out of the gate.

Releasing across digital service providers on January 13, 2023, Guillotines On The East 2 takes the momentum of its predecessor and refuses to be content with previous accomplishments. The flag is high for an army to follow. The It’sKnucklyUp production compliments the duos’ lyrical assault with the skill of a master composer scoring a major motion picture. Completing the experience, Holly Boogz was brought in for engineering duties. The final polish sets the bar for the new year in Christian rap.

Features on the project include Zae Da Black Smith, Leathle Da 3rd 7, and DJ Charlie washed.

When asked about the motivation behind doing a second Guillotines project, YP aka Young Paul kept things simple by saying, “the Bible is our sword, and like David, we use hip hop to cut the enemy’s head off.”
