JIMMY ROCK #1 on iTunes

International touring artist and DJ, specializing in EDM and hip-hop remixes, JIMMY ROCK has added to his already impressive resumé.

JIMMY ROCK HAS performed in countries around the world including Kenya, Colombia, Guatemala, and Canada. As a result, he is firmly established as a trendsetter in today’s Christian music industry.

Having begun 2023 with over 1 million global streams on Spotify, this year has set up to be a springboard to gain awareness of his music with new audiences. The results of his hard work and dedication are easily found in his latest accomplishment.

JIMMY ROCK’s 2022 single, “Won’t Stop (Reyer Remix)”, which features Christian hip-hop artists Steven Malcolm and Fern of Social Club Misfits, recently reached the number one position on iTunes Electronic (EDM) chart. The record outpaced mainstream powerhouses Skrillex, Moby, Missy Elliott, and others. This is no small feat! One that deserves to be celebrated by not only the industry but by fans of Christian music as well.

Having worked with Social Club Misfits members Fern and Marty individually, the number one ranking of “Won’t Stop (Reyer Remix)” sets the stage for what’s coming next.

JIMMY ROCK is ready to drop his first major label release on Capital Records alongside Social Club Misfits later this year.

“This number one on iTunes couldn’t have come at a better time,” explains JIMMY ROCK. “I’ve been in constant communication with both Marty and Fern, working with them on their upcoming remix EP/album and then we get this news! It’s truly amazing.”

The collaborative project is one that will be at the top of many most anticipated albums of the year lists for 2023. JIMMY ROCK recognizes how important his supporters have been for him to be able to reach this stage of his career.

“I’m excited and thankful for my fans. I can’t wait for you to hear the new music I have coming out with Social Club. It’s House/Dance music that is going to go crazy in clubs and at festivals!”

JIMMY ROCK and Reyer Collaborate On Their Third Release, a Reimagination of The Same Jesus

For the past 2000 years, people have wondered and debated about the identity of the one known as Jesus.

Martyrs have willingly given up their lives for His sake while others have declared war in His name. He has been called the Savior, a prophet, “a really good guy”, and a fictional character. For many, the truth that they have discovered is that this Jesus is The Same Jesus “who carried our shame, who rose from the grave”, and “He is making us new.”

JIMMY ROCK and Reyer collaborate on their version of the Matt Redman penned The Same Jesus.

The record blends an unique pairing of worship with EDM production to create a sound that is radio ready to capture the hearts of listeners world wide.

Releasing on Monday, August 29, 2022, The Same Jesus features Oleven. It marks the third release between JIMMY ROCK and Reyer since 2021. The duo’s prior releases include “Great Are You Lord (featuring Alaina Cross” and 2022’s remix of “Won’t Stop (featuring Steven Malcolm & Fern of Social Club Misfits)”.

Having already hit airwaves across the globe, The Same Jesus is expected to close out the year as JIMMY ROCK and Reyer’s biggest collaboration yet.

The Gospel Music Association has announced its award nominations for 2021.

The 52nd annual awards show is scheduled to be held on October 19th. Until then, there is exciting news for the independent CHH community.

While hip hop and the larger Christian music space have, let’s say, a somewhat rocky relationship, it is safe to say that the bigger name in the hip hop circle usually gets recognized. It’s understandable. The broader Christian audience may have some level of familiarity with the likes of artists like Lecrae, Andy Mineo, and Aaron Cole. However, a group of artists we are quite familiar with have a reason to hold their heads a bit higher.

JIMMY ROCK’s single Worth It (featuring DJ Mykael V, J. Crum, and Rockstar JT) caught the attention of the GMA’s in 2021.

While Worth It faces some stiff competition (you may notice a guy named Kanye is also on the ballot), the nomination itself feels like a big step for the sub-genre.

Give these guys their flowers!

Landing a nomination is huge! Now it’s up to the voters for this year’s awards to see how it plays out. Can the underdogs come up big? We’ll find out on October 19, 2021, as the Dove Awards are held in Nashville, TN.

Past winners of the Rap/Hip Hop Recorded Song of the Year include:

  • Gawvi “Fight for Me” (2019)
  • Social Club Misfits “War Cry (ft. Tauren Wells)” (2018)
  • NF “Oh Lord” (2017)
  • Andy Mineo “Uncomfortable” (2016)

If you were given a vote by the GMAs, what would be your pick for Rap/Hip Hop Recorded Song of the Year? Let us know in the comments!

JIMMY ROCK has established himself within faith-based hip hop as a go-to for unique, club-style remixes. He has worked alongside several of Christian Hip Hop’s top names. Jimmy’s 2020 album World of Drops was well received in the space. It included guest appearances by popular artists Steven Malcolm, Fern (of Social Club Misfits), and CHH legend Pettidee.

It is a must for DJs and independent Christian Hip Hop artists need to add it to their toolbox as well.

“More than a record pool”, UGM Digital started in 2019. The goal was to provide DJs with high-quality, clean music. Two years later they host the largest collection of positive music on the planet.

UGM has its roots deep in the Christian Hip Hop industry. The company works with the genre’s biggest names including illect Recordings, Reach Records, and goodcity.  They also have featured partnerships with notable DJs such as JIMMY ROCK, DJ Sean Blu, DJ Tony Tone, DJ I Rock Jesus, and more. What started as a simple question (How can DJs get access to high-quality music?) has grown into a movement in and of itself.

Working alongside artists, producers, and DJs around the globe, UGM has become a go-to source for the creative community.

“I’ve seen few truly progressive platforms in the record pool space in my 24 years in the music buisness. UGM Digital is listening and adapting. I can’t say enough about how much I believe in their platform.” – Josh Niemyjski, Founder, Sphere of Hip-Hop

Sure, landing on playlists is cool…

…however, according to Andre Mullen (UGM Digital Founder), “it’s DJs that break records.”

“UGM Digital puts artists’ music in the hands of DJs, who are tastemakers in their own right. What better way to build momentum and exposure for a record than with a DJ with a platform?” – Mullen

Ultimately, all artists are looking to be “discovered”. UGM is helping DJs and producers redefine their experience through artist discovery and exposure. That is why they are branded as more than a record pool. The company is a curator for the latest music. Take into account the partnerships with brands, labels, and radio stations and you have an ecosystem where the artists are growing!

“We’re servicing three distinct groups of people – DJs, producers, and artists. DJs and producers get high quality audio files, including acapella and instrumental, of the latest music for blends and remixes. Additionally, they don’t have to search for music. Everything is available for them on our platform. Artists get their music marketed and promoted within the pool and our community of DJs.” – Mullen

Submissions to UGM comes at no cost to the artist.

The only thing you need to invest is a little time.

Artists need to simply follow the clearly described submission process and submit via email. If your record is approved, both the artist and DJs who are subscribed to the service receive notice that your song is a new addition. I guess you could continue to “wait and see” if your song lands a big playlist placement, or you could take your chances with individuals who have true industry ties. Mullen himself has been part of the music industry for nearly 30 years.

UGM is continuing to grow its partnerships as well.

Clear Hits Radio, Wisconsin’s first Christian Hip Hop station, entered into an official partnership with UGM Digital in June. Why is this noteworthy? The partnership creates an opportunity for artists to receive monetization from their music. At the same time, the online station gains greater access to music to share with its listeners.

UGM also recently announced a partnership with The Indie Artist Help Desk.

This partnership finds UGM settling into a host capacity on the popular app Clubhouse. Mullen, and others, will host a bi-weekly virtual room in The Indie Artist Help Desk’s club. The title of their room is “BPM + Key”.

The goal of this room is to help teach artists and creatives how to present good music to the marketplace. Beginning on June 30, 2021, “BPM + Key” will be live every other Wednesday.

So my challenge to you, independent Christian Hip Hop artist, is to take some time and digest the service that UGM Digital offers.

Is it for you? Maybe it’s not. However, my guess is that you’ll find it difficult to come up with a legitimate reason to not submit your music.

If we want to continue seeing growth in the genre, and you want to take steps towards music being a full-time commitment, then taking advantage of opportunities that companies like UGM offers is essential. And before anyone begins pointing fingers, no UGM did not approach us looking for coverage. At FiveTwenty our goal from the beginning has been to equip indie artists with the knowledge to help them build towards their dreams. Once we discovered UGM and what they are bringing to the table, it was simply a no-brainer to pass the info along.

It is pretty simple. You can continue to hope that your distribution company of choice and the DSPs show you some favor with their algorithms, or you can begin taking more control of your journey. The choice is yours. Just don’t say that FiveTwenty didn’t try to educate you when we could.

More coming soon…

Eric Boston reviewing a hip hop influenced EDM album…what could go wrong?

I am stepping out of my comfort zone with this one.

Jimmy Rock’s new six-track EP ‘World of Drops’ includes elements that were more than intriguing for me. It also made me slightly nervous as I want to do any project that I review justice.

I guess the best thing that I can do is to simply jump in feet first!

Intro To War ft. Egypt Speaks – Basic monologue into by Egypt Speaks that bleeds into track two, the first song of the album.

War – The first song is also the project’s longest, coming in at just over five minutes. The tribal drums work in tandem with the electronica feel of the melody. To be completely transparent, I am not the one who should be critiquing an EDM record. That being said, I appreciated the way that this track builds and adds layers as it progresses. The inserted adlibs and KB inspired (“I Believe”) chant bring a hip hop element that I was able to connect with. Overall, I can see this leading a Jimmy Rock set and getting a crowd ready to cut loose for an evening.

Catch These Hands ft. Pettidee – If you read my review of Brinson’s ‘Throw the Crown’ album (you can do so here if you haven’t), then you know that one feature that is sure to grab my attention is seeing CHH veteran Pettidee listed on a project. Add that to a title such as “Catch These Hands” and certain expectations begin to form before hearing a single bar. I must say, my preconceived ideas of this track were not close to the final product.

I love how Jimmy Rock presented Pettidee’s vocals on the hook as a sample instead of a traditional chorus. We only get a single verse from Pettidee, but it was a good one. His unmistakable gritty vibrato works well with the dance-infused production. Not every rapper can appear at home in this environment, but the duo of Jimmy Rock and Pettidee pull it off well as Pettidee’s energy is in sync with the track’s feel.

Don’t Sleep On Me – Again, another EDM production that I feel less adequate speaking on. I definitely caught some similar vibes as when hearing dance music in the 90s (without the track sounding dated, which is a big plus).

I think it was a good thing that the track came in under two minutes; it serves as a transition of sorts to the following record.

Won’t Stop ft. Steven Malcolm & Fern – As we reach the next to last track on the project, Jimmy Rock enlists the help of two of the biggest names in the CHH space with the likes of Steven Malcolm and Fern of Social Club Misfits.

One thing that jumps out from the start is the more traditional hip hop sound.

Fern and Steven Malcolm both deliver quality verses that have become a staple for these now veteran emcees. I will say, the vocals on both verses sounded a bit different than we are used to hearing, almost like they are not as polished as normal. This is not a bad thing as I still enjoyed the more raw, less produced sound.

Moving between the verses and to finish off the track, Jimmy Rock installs electronic segments that keep the soundscape changing throughout.

You Feel It – The final track hits like a “War” part two of sorts.

The handclaps act as applause for an overall well-crafted project. Jimmy Rock keeps the finale moving with a variety of changes and vocal sampling. While not my particular lane, I can most certainly appreciate the level of musicianship that went into the track”s arrangement. My question is, do “You Feel It”?

The ‘World of Drops’ EP is solid from top to bottom.

Is it one that would be in my personal regular rotation? Probably not. Would it have its place in life’s soundtrack? Without a doubt!

If you’re looking for some high-energy music with a positive message to get you going, then ‘World of Drops’ is a great option.
