A rags-to-riches story.
Never afraid to be vulnerable, Steven Malcolm raps passionately about where he came from and where he’s going too.
On his latest single, Malcolm features RMG’s Derek Minor and collaborates with an all-star production team. Rooftop Freestyle is co-produced by Grammy Award winners BoogzDaBeast (Kanye West, Kevin Gates), FNZ (A$AP Rocky, Denzel Curry, The Kid LAROI), and Dayme.
“This record, honestly, is just me snapping.” – Steven Malcolm
2021 has been an incredible year for Malcolm.
His international hit “Fuego (Remix)” expanded his mainstream reach with help of Grammy-winning dancehall superstar Shaggy. “Glory One Me”, featuring Childish Major and Taylor Hill, was nominated for Rap/Hip Hop Recorded Song of the Year at the GMA Dove Awards. Now, Rooftop Freestyle is a fiery song that reinforces Malcolm’s skills as an emcee.
With fast-paced flows and inventive rhyme schemes, the captivating story recounts bits of Malcolm’s life.
“I told myself one time that my life could be a movie,” stated Malcolm. “With the craziness that has gone on and all of the things that I’ve overcome to be where I’m at today. It’s truly a blessing to come from nothing and gain everything you’ve prayed for. Especially [with my] background.”
If life is like a movie, then this record is a tribute to the hip hop hustle.
With Derek Minor contributing to Rooftop Freestyle, the result is a tag-teamed effort that builds off the year’s achievements. The track aims to strengthen the momentum Malcolm has gained throughout 2021. Included in that growth is his winning of the “Best Hip Hop Collaboration” Award that the Kingdom Choice Awards. Because of this, he garnered attention from top hop hop outlets like RESPECT.
